Replace a radiator thermostat in Stockholm

Does the radiator work but the temperature swings? Often it is the thermostat that is tired, not the radiator. We replace up to three thermostats on electric radiators or underfloor heating in the same visit in flats, terraced houses and detached houses in Stockholm — fixed price, more even heat and lower consumption. You will receive a suggested time as soon as the booking is in.

Old thermostats swing — new ones hold

Older mechanical thermostats switch on and off with several degrees in between, so the room alternates between too warm and too cold while the radiator works unnecessarily. Modern electronic thermostats maintain the temperature to within a fraction of a degree — same radiator, more even heat, less electricity. A small intervention with a clear effect, both in a flat and in a terraced house.

How do I know it is the thermostat that is faulty?

The most common signs: the radiator is scorching hot even though the room is already warm, it never gets properly warm regardless of the setting, or the temperature swings noticeably over the day. The heating element in a radiator typically lasts far longer than the control — so when a radiator behaves oddly the thermostat is the first suspect, not the whole radiator.

Replace thermostat or replace the whole radiator?

If the radiator is in good condition otherwise, a new thermostat is usually sufficient — a smaller intervention than replacing the radiator. If it is old, rusty or undersized it makes more sense to replace the whole thing; in that case the package price for radiator replacements applies instead. We give an honest opinion on what is worthwhile when we see the radiator on site, instead of recommending the more expensive option.

Direct electric heating in older homes — why the thermostat shows up on the bill

Large parts of Stockholm's stock of houses and terraced houses was built when direct electric heating was standard, and in many homes the original thermostats are still in place. The radiators work hard for half the year, and a thermostat swinging by several degrees wastes electricity unnecessarily around the clock throughout the entire heating season. Modern electronic thermostats hold the temperature to within a fraction of a degree, and the difference shows in consumption from the very first winter.

The underfloor heating thermostat can also be replaced

Dark display, floor that never gets warm or heat running at full power — underfloor heating thermostats fail far more often than the heating element in the floor itself. We replace with a modern thermostat with floor sensor and run a test before we leave, so you do not have to break up a bathroom floor unnecessarily.

Frequently asked questions

Can I replace the thermostat myself?

On plug-in radiators some knobs can be replaced yourself, but permanently wired radiators and underfloor heating require a qualified electrician. Incorrectly wired controls can damage both the radiator and electrical safety.

What is included in the fixed price?

Replacement of up to three thermostats on electric radiators or underfloor heating in one visit, with travel and standard materials included and the ROT deduction already handled and applied.

Do new thermostats fit old radiators?

Usually, but not on all models — some older radiators have the control built in so it cannot be replaced separately. Send a photo of the radiator in the booking and you will get an answer before the visit.

Does replacing a thermostat actually save electricity?

Yes, if the old one swings. Every degree of overheating wastes electricity unnecessarily, and a tired thermostat drifting by several degrees does this around the clock throughout the entire heating season. The new one holds — that is the whole saving.
